Maustaja prepares mustards for Finns
23.6.2021
The midsummer barbecue season has started at this time of the year, and the unbeatable combination is, of course, delicious grilled sausages with mustard. During the summer, more than 21 million kilograms of sausages are eaten in Finland. Therefore, the most important mustard season is at this time. Did you know that Maustaja produces 60% of all Finnish mustards? Long-term experience is indicated by 10,000 kilograms of mustard a day and the skills to create a mustard that meets exact requirements.
Course with groats or silky smooth?
Delicious mustard tastes good and also feels good in your mouth. The correct mouthfeel is achieved by grinding the mustard seeds with stone mills or by mixing mustard powders. The flavour is the bottom line, and the mustard’s taste is ensured by good raw ingredients and the correct maturing time and acidity. The temperature must also be maintained at an exact level throughout the production process. Whether you want the mustard to be smooth, ground twice, coarser, once ground or even more coarse with whole and broken mustard seeds, everything is possible at our plant in Pyhäntä. You might not immediately think that the production of mustard is really the high tech area of the food industry😊.
Finns demand traditional flavours and always something new too
Mustard is the most popular seasoning for Finns. A long journey has been travelled in the world of mustards in terms of options too; there are mustards to suit all tastes: mild and strong, French-type and mustards flavoured with, for example, cognac, honey or horseradish. Organic mustard is also possible, and for Food Service customers, we pack the mustard in serving sachets and buckets and diverse consumer packaging and for industrial needs, in containers.
A product, which does not need a presentation
You cannot really talk about mustard without the iconic Turun Sinappi since very few products on the Finnish market are as well-known and beloved as the genuine Turun Sinappi mustard. When the production of mustard returned to Finland after several years of production being carried out abroad, Maustaja had the privilege and pleasure to take responsibility for ensuring that the well-known product continues its successful journey that started in 1948 with the same original recipe. Since 2014, consumers have enjoyed the familiar flavours since Turun Sinappi is once again a genuinely Finnish product from start to finish.
We wish you all a sunny, tasty and delicious summer!
